The man who dint give up

Bone fills

The infection in the root canal often causes hollowing of the bone underneath, which can be easily seen and assessed on an xray. Likewise, when we treat this infection and ensure it’s complete elimination, we see new bone formation. This too can be evaluated on the x-ray.

Just like proof of the pudding is in the eating, the proof of bone formation is the on the x-ray

It started with one 72 year old highly diabetic hypertensive patient. He came to us with a tooth that not only had a bad cavity but was shaking. It was his only grinder and hence, overused. We told him of the futility of trying a root canal treatment in such a bad tooth, and that no matter what I do, it might just come off. “All the time and money will be wasted.”
Colleagues and seniors; logic and reason,; evidence and science … everything and everyone said extraction.

“I don’t mind taking the risk” he persisted and argued, “as far as it does not do me more harm. Let’s give it a shot.”
We embarked on this journey together, faith and Magic – a science yet to be explained.

He assured me complete compliance on the diabetes side.
Well well …. It healed and we saw new bone formation. It lasted him a good nine years till his diabetes spiked again.

I started refining this technique. Unlike this one, we started taking calculated risk, strict follow up and have seen well documented bone fills over the years.
It is extremely rewarding to see the conscientious effort turn into magical healing. ‎
